'Demotion letter of Lagos acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, wasn't authorised' - Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, says

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, has distanced himself from a letter dated October 8th, claiming acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Imohimi Edgal and his Kogi state counterpart, Aji Ali Janga, have been demoted to the ranks of Deputy Commissioners of Police. Recall that the letter signed by the commission's  Permanent Secretary, Musa Istifanus, found its way to social media yesterday. Istifanus in the letter claimed the decision to demote the officers was taken at the commission's meeting on September 27th and 28th.
However reacting to the report, Okiro who is a former Inspector General of Police, said the letter was not authorised by him as the commission's Chairman and should be disregarded.
In a telephone interview with Punch, Okiro said;
"The letter was not authorised by the commission. Istifanus did not write on my behalf. I read the letter too like everybody and I have told the IG to ignore it. The letter was not authorised at all. I will meet with Istifanus about it and find out how the letter came about.” he said
Also, the spokesperson of the force, Jimoh Moshood, denied the reports that the commissioners had been demoted. According to him, Imohimi wasn't facing any disciplinary panel that would warrant his demotion.
