Otodo-Gbame community evictees who were arrested two nights ago while staging a protest at the Lagos state government house have been released, according to police.
The residents of Otodo-Gbame community were at Alausa on Wednesday to air their grievances after being evicted from their homes earlier in the year (read here).
They were arrested during the protest and the Lagos State Police Command have now released a statement addressing the issue.
It said in the statement that 158 members of the Otodo-Gbame community who were arrested were released yesterday. The statement further admonished members of the public to desist from carrying out protests that disturb the peace of the public.
The statement reads: "The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform members of the Public that the 158 members of the Otodo-Gbame community were released yesterday 16th November 2017 at 7pm, after the police had extracted their undertaken to maintain peace.
"The command would also like to use this as a medium to warn that henceforth when demonstrating/protest those involved should do so in a peaceful manner and must not constitute themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace."
