 Gunmen kill 23-year-old corps member in Imo for refusing to surrender his phone

23-year-old corps member identified as Ekene Uwaoma Martins, was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Monday, October 16th after he was accosted and asked to surrender his phone at Ama-wire Junction in Owerri, the Imo state capital. According to reports, Ekene who is a 2016 graduate of History and International Studies from the Imo State University, was serving in Ogun state and had gone to Imo state to see his mother, Mrs. Mary Uwaoma.
The deceased was out of his home with one of his friends identified as Macdonald to buy some food when they were accosted by four armed men that demanded for their phones. While his friend surrendered his immediately, Ekene reportedly refused to give up his to the armed men. They started struggling and in the process, one of them shot him in the chest. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors. 
The state police command says investigations into the matter has begun.
